Journalist, photographer and programmer based in Pensacola, Florida. Currently writing about trending news for the USA Today Network.

Intro

Hey, I’m Brandon! I’m a lifelong student who loves to collect hobbies. Technology was my first passion, music was my second and writing was how I thought I would tie them together.

After photography, programming and becoming a dad, I realized my mistake was failing to consider all of the other things I’d come to love throughout my life.

This is where I share them.

Work

I’m a random word generator of titles by night and a journalist 24/7. When I’m not snooping Google Trends and Searchlight for trending news ideas, I’m pouring through Google Analytics and Parse.ly for breakouts and folos.

I write about everything from how politics or weather will impact a community to why your phone is in SOS mode and explaining why the Tiger King is back in jail.

(Hey, inquiring minds want to know, and I’m not here to judge.)

My CV

I'm currently the Digital Coach at the Pensacola News Journal. I collaborate with reporters and editors to identify high-potential topics and capitalize on trending content. I drive our SEO strategies and provide editors with comprehensive analytics reports. I also work with the Florida USA Today Network to create and share trending content of state and national interest.

I was hired as a Producer III in Gannett in 2015. I oversaw the website section fronts, managed content budgets, created graphics and videos to share on social media, edited stories and looked for opportunities to supplement existing stories.

In 2016, I worked with an internal team at Gannett to rebrand our entertainment content. We created and launched a standalone app called The Bacon, which focused on local food and event coverage. The app won an award for Best Digital Audience in 2017 from the Florida Society of News Editors.

My work has received awards for breaking news coverage around Hurricane Sally and the NAS Pensacola terrorist attack. I’m also a graduate of Loyola University Chicago’s Emerging Leaders Institute program.
